A Variable DC Power Supply

This project uses potentially lethal mains voltages and comparatively high currents. Do NOT skimp on safety arrangements such as earthing (grounding), fuses, ventilation and preventing access to live parts through ventilation slots.

The Front & Rear Panels

The Wiring

Detail showing the LM338 mounted to the heatsink with a mica washer, an insulating bush and heat transfer compound. The tab must be insulated from the heatsink.

Detail showing an LED connected across the output terminals with a series resistor. Use a 330R resistor for the 5v supply and 1k2 resistors for the 12v and variable supplies.

Detail showing hex pillars (6mm high, 3mm thread) Araldited to the front panel for the LCD to avoid screw heads showing on the outside.
